Jackson readies live-action 'Afro Samurai'

Samuel L. Jackson voiced the lead for the animated version of 'Afro
Samurai.'

Samuel L. Jackson is teaming Indomina Group and Gonzo Studios to
produce a live action film based on the "Afro Samurai" animated
seriess.

The announcement was made Thursday. Indomina Group Vice Chairman and
CEO Jasbinder Singh Mann will produce with Jackson and Gonzo Studios'
Shin Ishikawa. Eli Selden of Anonymous Content is exec producing.

Jackson voiced the lead for the 2007 anime TV mini-series "Afro
Samurai" and again for the animated TV movie "Afro Samurai:
Resurrection."

"This has been one of my very favorite properties ever since our
amazing debut at Comic-Con with the original series pilot out of
Japan," Jackson said.

Producers said Thursday they plan to attach a writer and director this
summer and complete casting by the end of the year. The film will be
shot at Pinewood Indomina Studios in the Dominican Republic next year.

"Afro Samurai" is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by
Takashi Okazaki, based on Afro Samurai seeking to avenge his father's
death by a gunslinger named Justice.
